American Tower Accountant Staff in Atlanta, Georgia

The Team

We are seeking a Staff Accountant join American Tower’s Technical Transaction Group in the Global Business Services (GBS) Organization. The Global Business Services team is responsible for developing and managing business service centers to execute accounting and transactional activities resulting in efficiency, quality and enhanced strategic decision support. Day to day you will focus on the financial aspects of the Company’s leases, properly recording the Company’s straight-line adjustments in the general ledger.

The Staff Accountant will obtain appropriate supporting documentation, coordinate with other groups, and lead contract-related projects and audits in accordance with the company policies and relevant GAAP guidance. You will analyze requests to change terms of existing contracts and support internal customers with post-revision financial information in accordance with internal guidelines. The Staff Accountant will prepare journal entries, reports, and financial presentations by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing contract information to support external reporting requirements as well as local management requirements and reporting needs.

What You Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

  • Between 1–2 years of relevant experience in an office environment required.

  • Experience reviewing contracts (such as revenue and ground lease contracts) preferred.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong customer service skills with a track record of building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external customers and vendors.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to achieve results effectively and professionally.

  • Strong organizational skills: ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment .

What You Can Offer Us

  • Perform monthly financial close activities including:

  • Own preforming analyses of profit and loss accounts.

  • Own preforming balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring transactions are reported properly to support REIT and securitization reporting; and

  • Maintain internal control documentation, checklists, and audits to comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with the relevant GAAP guidance and internal policies and procedures.

  • Review key business terms of various contracts to support internal customers’ needs.

  • Analyze and interpret leases to identify financial clauses that help assess and manage the Company’s financials, including various contract terms such as term, termination rights and billing amount.

  • Coordinate on contract terms and provisions with other departments.

  • Analyze requests to change terms of existing contracts; support internal customers with post-revision financial information.

  • Prepare reports and financial presentations by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing contract information.

  • Clarify contract interpretation and pricing questions with internal teams.

  • Perform audits on loaded contracts to ensure that financial terms were processed correctly.

  • Research contract questions or inquires for internal customers.

  • Perform intermediate contract research for management team.

  • Lead cross-organizational projects impacting land and tenant lease data; effectively communicate processes and collaborate on best practices.

  • Identify, and review with peers, situations when accounting guidelines present multiple interpretations for a particular lease and escalate to manager for resolution as necessary; offer ideas for resolution to correct exceptions and prevent recurrence of issues going forward.

  • Work closely with the Lease Abstraction, Lease Administration, Land Management, Legal, Landlord Relations, and Finance departments to implement and/or support process improvement and develop best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.
