We are looking for a Research Engineer to join our User Modeling and Personalization Research Team! Our mission is to invent new ways to model user behavior, and empower our business partners to build world-class user-centric ML systems which shape personalized experiences across Snap. Our work spans the domains of user behavior understanding, structured data modeling, recommendation systems, and efficient large-scale machine learning. Together with you, we seek to redefine the state-of-the-art in technology to deliver our users customized experiences which delight them.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and support engineering and applied research projects towards large-scale machine learning initiatives

  • Evaluate technical tradeoffs, perform code reviews and ensure high code-quality for research prototypes

  • Build robust, lasting, and scalable systems and iterate without compromising quality

  • Partner with engineering teams to deliver your technology to millions of Snapchatters

  • Partner with researchers to publish findings at top conferences

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability in both software development and machine learning

  • Strong computer science fundamentals and problem-solving skills

  • Strong understanding of machine learning approaches, algorithms, and data structures

  • Proven ability to define and solve open-ended and ambiguous technical problems at an enterprise scale

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in a technical field such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent years of experience

  • 3+ years industry in any of the following: applied science, machine learning, distributed systems, or research roles

  • Familiarity with machine learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, SparkML, JAX or related frameworks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in machine learning or computer science, or equivalent years of experience

  • Expertise with graph algorithms and models, recommendation systems, and scalable machine learning paradigms

  • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks like Hadoop, Spark, and/or Dataflow, data pipelines and MLOps

  • Proficiency in languages like Python, Scala, and Java

  • Examples of your work, such as open-source contributions, conference or journal publications in top-tier venues (ICLR, NeurIPS, AAAI, KDD, WSDM, etc.)

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC) (https://careers.snap.com/us-payzones) :

The base salary range for this position is $168,000-$252,000 annually.

Zone B (https://careers.snap.com/us-payzones) :

The base salary range for this position is $160,000-$239,000 annually.

Zone C (https://careers.snap.com/us-payzones) :

The base salary range for this position is $143,000-$214,000 annually.

This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
