Boehringer Ingelheim (Senior) Principal Clinical Imaging Lead - Lung Imaging in Biberach, Germany

The Position

Are you an expert in Translational Medicine and Lung Imaging? Do you have an interest in drug development, as well as knowledge and practical experience in the field of lung imaging technologies and image analysis? We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the global department Translational Medicine & Clinical Pharmacology (TMCP) at our site in Biberach, Germany.

TMCP is a global organization within the Innovation Unit that builds understanding of diseases and drugs by developing and applying innovative translational strategies (including biomarkers, clinical pharmacology, pharmacometrics and digital approaches) across the entire clinical development pipeline.

We drive projects fast and stringently to informed decisions on first-in-man, proof of pharmacological principle (PoPP), proof of clinical principle (PoCP) and proof of clinical concept (PoCC) up to submission. To generate an integrative understanding of the dose-exposure-biomarker-response/clinical end-point relationship and to maximize translational knowledge generation, we are applying state-of- the-art technologies and data analytics, support start of development decision points (SoDs) and enable Precision Medicine to deliver differentiated therapies for patients.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will support drug development projects in the transition from research to clinical development and up to clinical phase III, including submission, by providing your expertise in clinical imaging biomarkers with strong focus on lung imaging imaging technologies and image analysis.

  • You will successfully implement biomarker strategies in clinical trials and translational studies in close collaboration with Clinical Operations as well as with academic labs and CROs.

  • Together with other early clinical development functions, you will ensure that the biomarker data package enables PoCP and supports the Target Product Profile.

  • You will establish a network of leading academic partners to ensure a continuous exchange about lung imaging/image analysis methodologies and clinical imaging biomarkers across projects.

  • In addition, you will design and lead experimental medicine studies to validate clinical imaging biomarkers in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Additional tasks for the Senior Principal role

  • As a Senior Principal Clinical Imaging Lead, you will act as the primary internal reference contact for clinical imaging approaches in lung diseases.

  • Furthermore, you will provide insights of clinical imaging in the TMCP Inflammation Strategy Team as Subject Matter Expert.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent (in Biomedical Engineering, Bio-/Medical Physics or equivalent) with a strong track record of independent clinical/research activities in the field of clinical imaging

  • Multiple years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent working experience - working experience in a pharmaceutical or diagnostic company is a plus

  • Knowledge in implementing lung imaging (e.g., MRI, CT) and image analysis technologies.

  • Deep understanding of the acquisition and analysis of imaging data and linkage between imaging markers and clinical endpoints

  • Good knowledge about relevant regulatory regulations applicable for clinical imaging and drug development (e.g., Good Clinical Practice (GCP), FDA industry guidance) - Experience with operational aspects of clinical trials is a plus

  • Able to project opinions and knowledge with confidence, authority, respect, and diplomacy when interacting with all levels of BI colleagues and external partners

  • Collaborative, innovative, self-directed, with outstanding team-working and communication skills. The international nature of the task requires excellent English - both spoken and written

Additional requirements for the Senior Principal role

  • Long-term experience in the field of clinical lung imaging, plus several years of working experience in a pharmaceutical or diagnostic company

  • Credible knowledge of the use of biomarkers in drug development with understanding of clinical imaging biomarker applications, evaluation and analysis and linkage between biomarkers and clinical endpoints

  • Excellent leadership skills, successfully proven in project team settings, and proven ability to deliver results
