Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the efficient and economic design and construction of underground and overhead electric distribution specializing in line extensions to serve new residential and small commercial members, line location and maintenance projects, in accordance with RUS requirements, recommended practices, the N.E.S.C. and EMC policies and procedures. To assist Staking Technicians II and consultants with large three phase commercial extensions and system improvement projects as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, design, and coordinate the staking of line extensions to serve new residential and small commercial members, line location and maintenance projects utilizing staking software including Futura/Partner, Pole Foreman.
  2. Procure all required permits, easements, and right-of-way:

  3. Procure all legal documents such as easements, D.O.T., railroad, pipeline, and Corp. of Engineers permits as each project may require.

  4. Directly interact and negotiate with members, property owners, and corporate attorney to obtain easements and right-of-ways.
  5. Complete Georgia D.O.T. permits, county permits, and new overhead and underground specifications in AUTO-Cad.
  6. Design specifications for construction crews including drawings on overhead and underground projects.
  7. Calculate project cost for all construction projects.
  8. Serve as the liaison with developers/member, engineers, homebuilders, municipalities, consultants, and utility crews.
  9. Must have the ability to process data on staking software (Futura/Partner, Poleforeman) proficiently after 1 year along with the ability to down load information to the main frame.
  10. Complete Georgia D.O.T permits, and county permits, in Auto-Cad.
  11. Complete Rail Road permits in Auto-Cad.
  12. Keep supervisor fully informed of any unusual material or equipment needs as well as member complaints that may arise from time to time.
  13. Resolve member complains in a timely and professional manner and ensure and changes are made to correct unsatisfactory conditions.
  14. Keep updated on new developments in electric power distribution and government specifications.
  15. Assist construction crews during storm outages.
  16. Complete all assigned tasks and functions in a timely manner, within current established and changed EMC policies and procedures with minimum supervision.
  17. Lend technical advice to other areas such as construction crews.
  18. Create locate tickets through 811 system.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High school graduate/equivalent plus completion of a technical program in the electrical technology field or comparable experience/background equivalent to a recognized 2-year vocational-technical program.
  • Prefers one year experience in staking or other related experience.
  • Must have a working knowledge to operate Auto-Cad program to complete a Georgia DOT permit, county permit, along with being able to create new overhead and underground specifications in Auto-Cad.
  • Ability to set up files in a PDF format to send out to the various governmental agencies.
  • Should be familiar with GreyStone Power’s service territory and have the ability to read company mapping system.
  • Must have ability to prepare legal documents such as Right of Way easements, state and county permits.
  • Must become proficient in the use of the sections field computers and software within the first six-month introductory period.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with the members, developers, land agents, attorneys and other regulatory agencies.
  • Must satisfactorily pass the EMC's employment physical exam and required drug screens.
  • Requires valid Georgia driver’s license.

Physical Demands (if applicable):

• Must be able to work with exposure to outside elements such as weather, animals, insects, etc. Considerable walking, bending and climbing are required.

• Must be willing to work varied/irregular hours, from time to time and be available for emergencies when needed.
