Job Description:
The photography student assistant within the Division of Student Life Department of Marketing & Strategic Communications is visually minded, a storyteller at heart, and energized by creative challenges and reimagining what’s possible. This position will work alongside the Division’s Multimedia Specialist to create photos that showcase and support the Gator student experience.
Area specific job responsibilities
Photograph student programs, special events, activities, and scheduled studio shoots highlighting the programs and offerings of student spaces
Ideate, create and pitch unique content ideas for the area’s various social platforms
Maintain the organization of the Division’s photography database
Maintain care of photography equipment
Assist in and provide an educated voice in the planning, development and execution of marketing plans
Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, co-workers and vendors in an agency style work environment with both student and professional staff including graphic designers, marketing assistants, communication specialists and more
Other duties as assigned
Additional information
The department’s camera ecosystem consists of Canon Digital SLRs
Student Life Marketing utilizes Adobe Creative Cloud (Lightroom and Photoshop) and Photomechanics for post-production workflows
Expected Salary:
$12.50 per hour
Minimum Requirements:
This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.
Willing to work 10-12 hours per week
Must be available to work weekdays, and some evenings and weekends.
Be registered in a UF degree-seeking program for at least half time.
Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University with no repeated violations of the University Code of Student Conduct.
Preferred Qualifications:
Have an interest in people and building positive relationships that make our department and the UF community better.
Possess solid photography and editing skills, as well as the ability to craft and maintain a consistent voice and tone with imagery.
Ability and desire to learn the department’s photo production equipment inside and out, as well as industry-standard techniques and safe practices of grip, gaff, lighting, and camera equipment.
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and an eye for detail and accuracy.
An interest in thinking creatively, strategically, and collaboratively to aid in educating our community on the experiences and offerings available to enhance the UF experience.
Demonstrated previous experience utilizing photography equipment and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom software.
