Description

Inaccordance with established policies, procedures and standards, is responsiblefor the activities related to an assigned organizational element, program,project or task.This position will be responsiblefor the plan review of Offshore Support Vessels, Tugs, Barges and various other<90M vessels to verify compliance with ABS Rules as well as statutorycompliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, IBC, IMDG, SPS, & OSV Codes.This position will be responsiblefor the plan review of Offshore Support Vessels, Tugs, Barges and various other<90M vessels to verify compliance with ABS Rules as well as statutorycompliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, IBC, IMDG, SPS, & OSV Codes.

Will normally plan, conduct and supervise engineeringdesign reviews and analysis assignments involving a major project or severalsmaller or less complex projects. These projects by nature of their complexityand difficulty require the fully competent application of conventionalknowledge in a particular field of engineering or scientificfield.

Project work and assignments may be broad in nature requiringingenuity and cross functional coordination.

Qualifications

1.Provides day-to-day leadership of Engineering staff assigned. Assigns projects to Engineers and monitors the progress of all assigned projects. Ensures the delivery of high quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.

2.Devises new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures or design where necessary.

3.Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity and timeliness of action of all assigned projects.

4.Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility.

Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary. Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.

5.Participates in the development and changes of Rules. Advises assigned staff in matters related to the application of Rules and Regulations.

6.Prepares written response to clients in accordance with established procedures.

7.Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally.

8.Monitors the performance, development potential and training needs of engineers assigned.

Keeps management informed of manpower needs.

9.Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids and other presentation materials.

10.Implements and maintains the ABS Quality System within assigned area of responsibility.

11.Prepares accurate billing to clients.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required (KSAR)

1.Shouldhave advanced practical industry related experience.

2.Working knowledgeand understanding of shipboard machinery including propulsion and auxiliarymachinery such as diesel engines, generators, motors, shafting, propellers,hydraulic systems, pressure vessel and deck machinery as well as electricalsystems.

3.Working knowledgeand understanding of USCG Regulations.

4.Knowledgeof related technical disciplines.

5.Knowledgeof applicable Rules and Regulations and impact of Rule applications andinterpretations.

6.Knowledgeof company business policies and procedures.

7.Thehuman relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts andprovide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers.

8.Abilityto effectively communicate orally and in writing.

9.Abilityto identify, analyze and solve complex or unique engineering problems.

10.Abilityto undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient andeffective scheduling of work assignments.

11.Aworking knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & EnvironmentalManagement Systems (internal candidates only).

Minimumyears of Experience

5 years of related experience

B.S. degree in related engineering field.

Work will be of a non-manual nature butthe incumbent must be able to walk and climb among equipment andstructures.

Occasionally may have to lift between 5‒15 pounds.
