This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Sr. Geotechnical Engineer for our Houston, Texas office. Be involved in business development and in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the strategic growth of our geotechnical practice and providing technical excellence delivering projects to WSP’s public and private sector clients. Projects generally include mining, earthen dams, transportation, and other civil works projects.

Your Impact

•Assist with needs analyses and client value surveys to align the engineering discipline’s function with business and project strategy, identifying and addressing any skill gaps or risks within the sector business operations.

•Provide engineering and project management and be responsible for delivering geotechnical and geologic projects to WSP’s public and private sector clients. Projects include transportation, commercial, power, water and mining.

•Develop a client base for providing high level geotechnical engineering services including identifying additional business development opportunities.

•Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines, other engineers, planners, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities.

•Remain current in latest geotechnical engineering techniques and practices.

•Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

•Managing and coordinating project teams, including ensuring the technical quality of deliverables

•Collaboration and participation in technical discussions with team members.

•Participate in business development and proposal efforts.

•Travel to visit clients and project sites, mostly in Texas and Louisiana. Approximately 30% overnight

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering, MS or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering preferred

  • 5-7 years + relevant professional civil/geotechnical engineering experience.

  • Experience in two or more of the following areas:

  • Transportation

  • Commercial

  • Power

  • Water

  • Mining/Mine design (tailings and heap leach)

  • Foundations

  • Earthen dams

  • Drilling, field investigations and laboratory testing

  • Good communication, report writing and presentation skills

  • Superior time management, planning and ability to interact with clients

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a team

  • Ability to pursue and develop clients in the public or private sectors

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

  • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
