Job Summary and Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

The Consulting Platform Engineer will provide enterprise technical knowledge in designing, implementing and supporting enterprise wide applications for one of the largest healthcare companies in the US. The engineer will provide technical skills that cover a broad range of disciplines relating to and/or a particular technical discipline that is of significance to HCA. Perform technical project assignments with minimal supervision. Identify, investigate, evaluate and become proficient in new technologies and technical disciplines that are of significance to HCA Healthcare.

Position will be responsible for providing technical review, administration, analysis, and troubleshooting of Wintel systems including Microsoft Windows Servers, MSSQL, Microsoft Failover Clustering, Nutanix, Cisco UCS and VMware deployments.

Analytical and design ability, high degree of creativity; knowledge of the business implications of technical approaches, directions and solutions; ability to innovate in complex technical areas, ability to achieve results, project planning and coordination skills, superior communication skills, and success in subordinate positions are required.

Specific responsibilities include installation of software products on various hardware platforms, operating system installation and customization where applicable, troubleshoot, coordinate, assist and advise in recovery from component failures of supported systems.

While the Consulting Platform Engineer will require cross-platform knowledge and expertise, the candidate should expect a preliminary focus in Windows/VMWare with Linux/Unix being a plus.

• Assist in the certification and design of new technology platforms.

• In depth knowledge of technology, network, data, and applications architectures.

• Ability to communicate with various levels, including management and end users is required.

• Maintain frequent interaction with corporate architects, vendor technical staffs, project managers, and division leadership and engineering staff to ensure effective delivery of solutions in accordance with project timelines and associated budgets.

• Provide technical leadership and certification of all supporting software and hardware in order to assure a sound deployment basis for production implementations.

• Business continuity solutions and assists in developing plans for disaster recovery.

• Participate in ongoing lifecycle efforts, including Windows OS refreshes and decommissions.

• Identifies and documents Compute, Storage, Network, and Virtualization processes and procedures.

• Certification for multiple hardware platforms and the interrelationship / Interoperability of different operating systems and complex environments.

• Provides input and recommendations in regards to departmental and financial planning in regards to division infrastructure.

• Assists with the education and training of personnel in technology areas.

• Participates in Disaster/Recovery efforts.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree required

EXPERIENCE

7+ years of relevant work experience required

OTHER/SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Certification in one or more of the following is highly desirable: Microsoft (MCSA, MCSE, MCITP), VMware (VCP, VCAP), Nutanix Platform Expert (NPX), Cisco Unified Computing

• PowerShell experience is required. vRealize Automation and Terraform knowledge are preferred.

• Linux knowledge is preferred.

• Capable of working effectively under a high pressure and demanding work environment.

• Capable of working effectively in a diverse, virtual team-oriented environment.

• Must be a self-starter and work effectively with minimal supervision.

• Must be customer-oriented and recognize the importance of customer service and meeting service level commitments.

• Must be committed to quality and timeliness of assigned deliverables and milestones.

• Functional knowledge of programming and software development

• Strong critical thinking skills, strong conflict management skills, excellent multi-tasking, prioritization, and time management skills, and good Executive Presence

• Exposure to a large information technology organization

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

• Some after-hours work will be required occasionally.

• Possible prolonged sitting at workstation.

• Some travel may be required as needed for training or technical conference attendance.
