Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY

Provide overall leadership for department by developing goals, objectives, policy and procedures, planning, supervising, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the activities; preparing operating and capital expenditure budgets; and performing personnel administration functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop goals and objectives for the department based on interpretation of institutional policy and goals

• Develop and establish priorities and goals for department based on translation of institutional goals and vision

• Create an organizational culture that provides a safe, satisfying and enriching environment for employees, ensuring a qualified competent staff to meet patient needs

• Analyze procedures and policies and initiate changes to better serve the needs of the patient, visitors and institution

• Collaborate with departmental leaders to develop goals based upon institutional standards

• Ensure the most effective operations of the department through program development, process improvement, and coordination/integration of processes with other departments while analyzing long term impact of decision making

• Improve efficiency by evaluating present systems and methods of providing imaging procedures and reports, including the scheduling, reviewing, entering, performing, and image transfer of all diagnostic imaging procedures

• Design and/or implement programs to maximize clinical outcomes, function status, patient/customer satisfaction and reimbursement

• Lead teams to streamline workflow and foster a collaborative work environment

• Supervise managers and staff on planning, coordinating, and optimizing work and procedures

• Adjust project priorities to better meet emergent situations or changing conditions; provide feedback to managers and coordinators on the changes and help reprioritize projects

• Participate in management meetings both within and outside of the diagnostic imaging department and institution to address problems and facilitate information exchange about programs, problems, etc.

• Collaborate with department managers to assess staffing needs to meet workflow and workload requirements

• Meet with other departments to determine best practice and plan to meet these needs

• Prepare annual operating budget for VCH Diagnostic Imaging departments to include direct labor, material and supplies, services, equipment maintenance, service contracts and replacement

• Prepare annual capital expenditure budget for department

• Oversee budgetary revenues and expenses to maintain department within acceptable budget parameters, providing rationale for variances

• Analyze and allocate departmental resources to most efficiently meet departmental goals and workload objectives

• Establish/maintain department service standards, communicating with key stakeholders when deviation from standards occur

• Enhance the performance, growth, and delivery of Diagnostic Imaging's clinical service and patient care through innovation and participation.

• Manage team of modality managers, administrative staff and quality coordinators

• Ensure VUMC and HR policy and procedures are maintained and followed by department

• Provide leadership to department by modeling behavior consistent to the mission, vision, and values of the medical center

• Identify, establish and evaluate quality assurance standards, programs, and procedures within department; oversee quality committee initiatives

• Evaluate any deviations in image quality standards in diagnostic modalities and implement necessary changes to prevent recurrence

• Coordinate the technical and data management aspects of diagnostic imaging to insure access, technical performance, billing, confidentiality, records and image management, and timeliness in generation and delivery

• Ensure that all accreditation/licensure requirements of department are met
