The School of STEM at Northwestern State University of Louisiana seeks applications from enthusiastic individuals interested in the Department Head of Engineering Technology position. This is a 12-month tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position beginning July 1, 2024. the successful candidate must have a minimum of a master's degree (Doctorate preferred) in engineering or a related field.

As department head of this program, the individual will be responsible for the academic and fiscal control of the Engineering Technology program within the School of STEM and will be responsible for maintaining the national accreditation of this degree through ABET. The department head must also promote and recruit for the program by building strong relationships with industrial partners, attending university recruiting events, and providing workshops for community and undergraduate outreach. The successful applicant must also teach some combination of undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in their related field of study. Preference will be given to applicants with a doctorate in engineering or related field and previous university administration experience. Review of applications will begin immediately. Minimum Qualifications

  • Shall be qualified to teach in the field of study.

  • Shall be effective in teaching the assigned subject material.

  • Shall meet the required standards defined by the University.

  • Shall be proficient in curriculum development, instruction, evaluation, and academic counseling.

  • Shall hold a terminal degree in Engineering or related field.

Job Concepts

  • Coordinates the initiatives of the department with the director of the School of STEM

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the goals and objectives of the Department of Engineering Technology, School of STEM, College of Arts and Sciences, and Northwestern State University.

  • Serve as the direct supervisor for faculty and staff in the Department of Engineering Technology.

  • Serve as an advisor and mentor for students in the Department of Engineering Technology.

  • Participate in meetings and serve on all appropriate councils and committees for the School of STEM, College of Arts and Sciences, and Northwestern State University.

  • Maintain appropriate expertise and competencies through continued professional development and pursuit of scholarly activities including grant writing, research, scholarly publication, and presentations.

  • Professionally represent the University in all activities and functions as determined by the President, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean, or Director (e.g., commencement, faculty institute, registration, and any called meetings)

  • Maintain confidentiality per federal laws and program policy.

  • Acknowledge and agree to comply with those mandates of the Constitution and laws of the State of Louisiana which regulate the activity and employment of state employees including but not limited to the "Code of Government Ethics", LA R.S. 42: 1101 et seq" and "Dual Office Holding and Dual Employment LA R.S. 42:61 et seq".
