Position Details:

 

Summary of Duties:

The Simulation Technician will work as part of a team in the College of Nursing Simulation Center to deliver nursing students with experiential training vital towards providing essential healthcare to future patients. This position works closely with faculty, standardized patients (medical actors), nursing students and staff in order to support role-play scenarios, using medical equipment and technologies. They are key to setting up the medical environment and preparing for simulations experiences. Comfort in and around medical equipment and medical terminology will be necessary in this role. This role provides vital instructional and technical support and expertise for simulation operations and technology. This includes preparation, operation, maintenance and repair of computerized manikin-based simulators, computerized simulators virtual reality, digital cameras, audio/visual, networking devices and associated supplies and equipment. This position obtains required supplies, restocking, and cleaning supplies in the simulation lab.

In addition to technical work, this position collaborates and supports a wide range of colleagues in the development and production of simulation scenarios. Excellent communications skills and being a team-player is integral to the role.

 

Essential Duties:

 

Classroom Support - 55%

 

Simulation Center AV/IT Systems Setup, Configuration and Simulation Support - 30%

 

Record Keeping and Procurement - 10%

 

Other - 5%

 

Required Qualifications:

 

A Bachelor's Degree with major study in specific instructional area; or equivalent education/experience.

 

Additional Requirements:

 

• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet, and database use.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to:

 

• Quickly learn new technologies, such as operating and maintaining proprietary patient simulator equipment.

• Troubleshoot technology issues and knows when to escalate/route complex problems to higher level experts.

• Manage projects

• Handle challenging situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

 

• Comfortable with the following:

 

• Working with and providing technical support to a wide range of colleagues, including faculty, staff and actors who serve as standardized patients.

• Working in a healthcare/medical simulation environment, including strong interest in learning anatomical and medical language and the use of medical equipment,

• Working with technical equipment regularly. This includes setting up, utilizing and maintaining/cleaning simulation associated medical equipment. Will regularly utilize operating technologies such digital cameras, A/V equipment and associated software.

• Working on a team and providing a welcoming environment to rotating staff and students.

 

• Some experience with planning, writing, implementing/facilitating, and evaluating a created experience transferable to a medical patient simulation scenario. For example, creating a lesson plan, tutorial, role-play, class, group project or similar.
