Monday - Friday (Part-time) Days.

Location: Primarily located at the Berkeley Hospital and Bon Secours St Francis Hospitals.

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and oversight for the planning, implementation, and coordination of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® and ANCC Pathway to Excellence Program® standards to promote nursing excellence, empowerment through shared governance, and professional development of nurses. Responsible for coordination of the application and appraisal process for Magnet and Pathway recognition as well as overseeing requirements for the Magnet and Pathway re-designation process. Assists with elevating nursing practice to improve patient outcomes and functions as a system advisor for our acute care facilities in pursuit of Magnet or Pathway designation. Serves as a liaison between nursing leadership, ANCC, nursing staff, physicians, and community.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develops vision, strategy, and tactical plans for obtaining and retaining Magnet and Pathway recognition. Oversees a continuous readiness plan for Magnet and Pathway designation/ re-designation. Ensures that the infrastructure for sustaining Magnet and Pathway recognition is in place and functional. Recommends the integration of professional nursing concepts, including Magnet standards, into nursing leadership, organizational programs, and hospital initiatives.

  • Serves as a system resource, advisor, and advocate for the Magnet Recognition Program® and Pathway to Excellence Program®.

  • Participates in the evaluation of nursing quality data and application of evidence-based practices to improve nursing practice, patient outcomes, and patient experience.

  • Serves as an educational expert in developing, implementing, and evaluating staff/interdisciplinary education related to Magnet and Pathway

  • Coordinates the organization’s Magnet and Pathway processes as the onsiteexpert and resource for the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® and ANCCPathway to Excellence Program®. This includes but is not limited to SharedGovernance, Nurse Peer Review, Peer Feedback, and meeting program qualityrequirements.

  • Leads the organization in applying the Magnet and Pathway standards to the workenvironment and clinical practice. Coaches and mentors nurses at all levels of thesystem in their understanding and application of Magnet and Pathway standards.Serves as a mentor/resource to outside hospitals pursuing nursing excellence andMagnet and Pathway recognition.

  • Serves as the liaison between the organization and the ANCC Magnet ProgramOffice.

  • Collaborates with key personnel to manage and submit the Magnet bienniumsummary (DDCT) and Pathway biennium summary (ODF) and interim reports.Coordinates the re-designation process through a variety of functions includingproviding an environment of motivation and commitment to a high level ofprofessionalism and meeting Magnet standards

  • Coordinates preparation of Magnet and Pathway documents for submission; maywrite and/or edit much of the content.

  • Promotes enculturation of shared governance across the system to include ancillary members as appropriate. Promotes best practice and provides oversight to system and hospital shared governance councils.

Licensing/Certification

  • Licensed as a registered nurse in the state of South Carolina.

  • Nursing specialty certification required within 6 months of position start (applicable certifications include approved ANCC clinical specialty or nursing leadership certifications).

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (required)

  • Master’s degree required in nursing or related field, such as healthcare administration or business administration (must hold a BSN if Master’s degree is in an unrelated field) (preferred)

Work Experience

  • Five years experience in healthcare and previous experience in healthcare accreditation and project management activities (required)

  • Previous experience with shared governance leadership (preferred)

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires sitting for long periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and/or working irregular hours. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, body fluids and other conditions common to a hospital environment.

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills :

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; experienced writer; ability to communicate in a positive, consistent, and open manner.

  • Thorough knowledge of hospital policies and ANCC Magnet Recognition Program® and designation process.

Soft/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to coach staff for optimum outcomes.

  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative work relationships and exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
