APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure, LLC, a leading engineering firm with a global presence and a thriving coastal engineering practice has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Hydrographic Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Tampa, Florida, Boca Raton, Florida or Baton Rouge, LA. APTIM performs full-scale hydrographic, geophysical, and geotechnical surveys in support of coastal restoration, offshore renewable energy development, and a variety of offshore mineral applications. APTIM hydrographers specialize in nearshore and offshore hydrographic data collection, processing, and reporting for investigations related to seabed and shallow to medium marine geology that is the foundation for mineral resource identification, regulatory permitting, infrastructure siting, geohazard analysis, pipeline/cable routes, and inspection surveys. The successful candidate will perform a variety of hydrographic work in support of geophysical and geotechnical projects.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Act as Lead Hydrographer /Party Chief for a variety of coastal and marine survey projects

  • Hydrographic system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting

  • Responsible for collection, processing, interpretation of multibeam and single-beam sonar data

  • Act as offshore field party chief, managing field projects from planning, execution, logistics, team management, and general safety

  • Maintain daily activity and safety logs

  • Provide field QAQC of hydrographic data

  • Ensure conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures

  • Development of plans, specifications, analyses, evaluations, maps, position papers, procedures and reports

  • Communication of technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, etc. via oral and written presentations

  • Working in combination with GPS, geophysical (chirp sub-bottom, sidescan sonar, magnetometers, etc.) and geotechnical (vibracores, surface grab samplers, etc.) equipment

  • Open to travel and extended field assignments in offshore environments

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in hydrography, geomatics, geology, geophysics, geological oceanography, or related field of study

  • 5-20 years relevant experience

  • Category A Hydrographer Certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months

  • Licensed Professional Surveyor, or ability to obtain within 6 months, licensed in FL, LA or NC

  • Must have strong technical/scientific writing skills

  • Experience with multibeam sonar survey design, implementation, data collection, and data interpretation are required

  • Project setup, development, and marine hydrographic data interpretation experience using Hypack

  • Experience with ArcGis, AutoCAD, Surfer software is preferred

  • Experience mobilizing vessels for hydrographic surveys

  • Works independently with minimal guidance. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience

  • Has expertise in own discipline. Applies knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations

  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services in own discipline

  • Monitors and controls costs within own work

  • Solves moderately complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions

  • Manages own time to meet agreed targets; develops plans for short-term work activities in own area

  • Explains difficult issues and works to establish consensus

  • Promotes teamwork; coaches and guides others
