Job Summary

Provides primary health care services including health screening and ambulatory care for eligible students at the University of Illinois.

Duties & Responsibilities

Take patient histories, sufficient to address the patient\'s chief complaint and other health concerns.

Conduct all aspects of a comprehensive physical examination including auscultation, percussion, inspection, and palpation.

Competently performs pelvic examinations, orthopedic examinations, neurological screening examinations, mental status examinations, and other medically necessary examinations as needed.

Competently perform all tests permissible to do in the physician-operated laboratory (e.g. fecal occult blood testing, urine dipstick, dipstick pregnancy testing, vaginal wet prep microscopy, and KOH prep microscopy.)

Accurately interpret and evaluates patient data, including initial reading of x-ray films.

Prescribe, administer, and dispense prescription and nonprescription medications and medical devices.

Make referrals to other providers as appropriate to facilitate treatment plan (e.g. referrals to emergency department, PT, OT, nutritionist, orthopedics, mental health, dermatology).

Consult with other physicians and/or health care professionals to confirm difficult diagnosis and facilitate appropriate treatment plan.

Ensure that patients receive adequate education to effectively participate in their diagnostic and therapeutic plan, and that they understand and assent to that plan and understand other appropriate alternatives.

Educate patients on health promotion and disease prevention.

Follow up with patients to review lab test results and progress in an appropriate and timely manner.

Complete all visit documentation in an appropriate and timely manner as determined by policy.

Develop and maintain technical skills necessary to provide excellent and efficient patient care. This includes competency with computer applications that enhance individual patient care and the efficiency of the health center.

Be efficient in the care of patients with regard to time spent with patients, number of patients seen, and resources utilized, such as laboratory, X-ray studies, consultations, pharmaceuticals, and supplies.

Be effective in the care of patients, with regard to overall patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Adhere to established Health Center policies and procedures including maintenance of records.

Display competency with regard to diagnosis and procedure coding.

Provide patient access by staffing clinics and special events per policy.

Perform CPR in emergency situations as indicated.

Assume appropriate related additional duties to further the mission of the unit. Actively participate in McKinley\'s quality improvement and risk management programs and its peer review processes as outlined in policy and annual plans. Attend and participate in assigned McKinley and campus committees. Collaborate with and/or supervise mid-level providers as assigned. Participate in university and health center promotions and promotional materials as needed. Utilize other members of the health care team appropriate to their skill level, licensure, and classification. Treat patients, staff, and colleagues with courtesy and respect. Stay informed of the newest developments in medicine by attending educational conferences, literature reviews, and consulting with other medical personnel. Maintain a current Illinois Physician & Surgeon license, Illinois Licensed Physician Controlled Substance registration and federal DEA controlled drug registration. Register and maintain access to the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program.

Minimum Qualifications

M.D. or D. O. Degree A valid Illinois medical license

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in college health. Experience or certification working with mental health conditions. Board certification in a primary care specialty.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. Salary is commensurate with experience.
