What you can expect to do here:

  • Coordinating the activities of engineering and design groups.

  • Making recommendations on highly technical and complex aspects of WSP projects.

  • Put together rough concepts for execution by others.

  • Complete feasibility studies and technical report writing.

  • Direct relations with Client’s Technical Teams/Advisors. Update management with Mechanical needs for upcoming projects and staffing requirements.

  • Responsible for reviewing and stamping drawings (as required); using experience in interpreting design codes and regulatory requirements.

  • Coach and mentor junior engineers in the development of their skills and training.

  • Proactively manage deadlines and ensure appropriate communication is provided (to relevant parties) when schedule and cost conflicts arise.

  • Ensure development of and monitoring of the risks; initiate action as they require mitigation or other management intervention.

  • Source out potential new Clients/projects and have the capacity to go from ‘need’ to concept.

  • Ensure bid specifications meet the technical/commercial terms of the project DBM.

  • Support Engineering labor-hour estimates (LHE) as required for various sized projects.

  • Expected to work with all levels of the organization in a cohesive manner.

  • Supervising complex engineering tasks related to a portion of a major project.

  • Developing a definition of the scope with consultation of other engineering services

  • Establishing the basic design criteria for the project with the client.

  • Assuring compliance of engineering effort to project schedule, control estimate and company procedures.

  • Assist in the development of the Project Charter, Project Design Basis Memorandum and execution of the plan, budget and schedule.

  • Review, check, and approve detailed engineering drawings.

  • Timely project reporting.

  • Maintaining quality control and quality assurance on projects.

  • Ensuring plans, instructions, standards, and work process are followed.

  • Responsible for reviewing the work of others.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Graduate in Engineering, or Applied Science

  • P.Eng. or P.Tech. designation.

  • 10 - 15 years of previous experience in an EPCM environment in the energy industry with relevant Ammonia Facility Design experience.

  • Demonstrated ability for higher level strategic, exploration, concept, and development planning for energy projects, including knowledge and application of new and emerging technologies.

  • Demonstrated skills on concept and developed design optimization programs to guide sound technical guidance for decision making.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, act as main contact with the client.

  • Proven ability to produce high quality work while facing competing priorities and strict deadlines.

  • Ammonia plant safety – industrial best practices, inherently safer design, emergency response requirements, acceptable plant layout (especially with respect to congested and high-traffic plant sites), leakage & dispersion considerations.

  • Implementation of ammonia technologies in Canadian environments; familiarity with winterization, process cooling and Canadian regulatory requirements.

  • Understanding of ammonia process designs from multiple vendors / suppliers; including ammonia synthesis compression, refrigeration and liquefaction, catalytic synthesis reactors, heat recovery steam generation.

  • Understanding of green and blue ammonia plant design

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to interact positively with all levels of staff.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity and discretion when working with confidential information.
